All companies
must go through some conversion and cut-over
process to upgrade their system’s environment
even if it is from a manual-based system
or a collage of spread sheets. Prior to
archiving the existing data, we help our
clients determine which data should be retained
and which should be scrapped and rebuilt
(because it is either inaccurate or out
of date).
Custom Conversion Programs
Once we jointly
determine which data will be saved from
the old system (AS400, System 38, PC, spreadsheets,
or what ever system you currently use),
we develop custom conversion programs that
not only move the data but massage it and
correct it before importing it into the
ACT database. We will run all conversion
programs several times before taking the
system live with the final cut-over.
System
conversion does not end with running a set
of conversion programs and leaving a client
on their own to enter the remaining base
system data. We help you establish policies,
procedures and data entry standards (including
the use of control tables) to correctly
build the new database and ensure your system
will contain only valid data elements today
and in the indefinite future. We will also
develop the required reports to "tie-out"
critical data with your old system if it
is determined that the systems must run
in parallel for a period before your old
system can be terminated.
ACT
has gone through this process many times
with many different organizations. This
can be one of the most challenging integration
projects and ACT has the knowledge and experience
necessary to make the conversion process
as efficient as possible.
