Computing
In the constantly evolving and changing world of
technology, customers are given a wide range of IT choices.
Rarely does one find a reseller that has maintained a solid
relationship with a software vendor over an extended time
period. At Accelerated Computer Technologies (ACT), Executive
Vice President Brian Javeline credits portability and
longevity as deciding factors in his 15-year relationship with
The SCO Group-dating all the way back to its first rollout of
SCO Xenix running on the IBM PS2.
"We saw that UNIX was becoming a more accepted business
application outside of just the education arena back then,"
said Javeline. "We wanted to provide a solution to our
customers at the mid-level. With DOS at the low level, UNIX at
the mid-level, and system 3X at the top level, we had a vision
to get bigger, but always kept the 'small guy' in mind,
operating with the same environment."
ACT resells SCO OpenServer to its apparel manufacturing
customers, many whom have migrated across the full line of SCO
products as they were introduced- from SCO Xenix, to SCO UNIX,
to SCO OpenServer, a UNIX-based operating system platform
designed for small and medium-sized businesses. ACT's end
users consist of "mom and pop" operations with 5-35 employees
using the business applications that produce weather gear,
school uniforms and other types of apparel.
ACT's apparel manufacturing customers operate on SCO
OpenServer for business-critical applications, including order
processing, purchasing and production, inventory control and
warehousing. Javeline sees SCO OpenServer as robust, workable,
and maintenance-free, noting that customers make the initial
investment in the product and are then able to operate in an
almost "maintenance-free" mode.
"Many of our clients never know what they're installing
from a hardware perspective- only from a software perspective.
And why should they? SCO OpenServer works-from install, to
configuration, to security. Our customers appreciate it when
99.5 percent of the time they can say with confidence that
they are up and running in a non-maintenance mode."
Javeline sees the "little guy" as the next generation of
growth - the business that brings in $2-5 million in annual
revenues. He insists that SCO OpenServer is the clear choice
because it is so well-designed for the small-to-midsized
business. "With SCO OpenServer, our clients can migrate slowly
with us over time and shift gears to bigger applications when
ready." |
